LOCAL GUSTS OF NE WINDS STRENGTHENING TO 35-45, IN THE NORTH ADRIATIC UP TO 65, IN THE VELEBIT CHANNEL UP TO 80 KNOTS. SEA IN THE NORTH ADRIATIC DURING THE NIGHT POSSIBLY UP TO 5. A RISK OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE EXTREME SOUTH OF THE ADRIATIC.

SYNOPSIS

A ridge of high pressure is intensifying over the Adriatic from the north, and a shallow low over the Ionian Sea is gradually filling up.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE ADRIATIC FOR THE FIRST 12 HOURS

NE winds strengthening to 12-26, in the North Adriatic to 16-32, in the Velebit Channel up to 40 knots. Sea increasing to 3-4, in the North Adriatic during the night possibly 4-5. Visibility 10-20 km. In the open sea of the North Adriatic and along the west Istrian coast, during the night in the greater part of the Central Adriatic, mostly clear. Elsewhere mainly cloudy with scattered rain in the extreme south of the Adriatic, and with a little risk of isolated rain showers and thunder, in the Velebit Channel with some wind drifted snow.

In the South Adriatic variably cloudy with scattered rain, isolated rain showers and thunder in the extreme south of the Adriatic. Moderate to strong, in the North Adriatic up to near gale force, in the Velebit Channel up to gale force NE winds. Sea slight and moderate, in the North Adriatic possibly up to rough.
