LOCAL GUSTS OF NE WINDS 35-45, IN THE VELEBIT CHANNEL UP TO 65 KNOTS, EASING DURING THE NIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING. LIGHT ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE SOUTH AND IN A PART OF THE CENTRAL ADRIATIC.

SYNOPSIS

A ridge of high pressure is extending over the Adriatic from the northwest, while a trough with frontal disturbance is slowly shifting from the South Adriatic eastwards.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE ADRIATIC FOR THE FIRST 12 HOURS

NE winds 15-25, in the Velebit Channel 25-35 knots. Toward the open sea of the South and of a part of the Central Adriatic in the afternoon NW winds 10-18 knots, turning in the evening to NE. Sea 2-3, toward the open and in the Velebit Channel 3-4. Visibility 15-25 km. In the South and in a part of the Central Adriatic variably cloudy with scattered rain, brief isolated thundery rain showers, but gradual clearing is expected in a part of the Central Adriatic toward the end of the day. Elsewhere mostly clear, in places south of Istria fair. No significant change in air temperatures.

Fine or fair, in the South Adriatic variably cloudy, still with a chance of scattered rain or brief isolated thundery rain showers. Moderate to fresh, in the Velebit Channel and in the extreme south of the Adriatic up to strong NE winds, further easing. Sea smooth or slight, in the open of the South Adriatic, toward the Strait of Otranto, up to moderate, calming gradually.
