LOCAL GUSTS OF NE WINDS STRENGTHENING TO 35-50, IN THE VELEBIT CHANNEL UP TO 65 KNOTS, EASING IN THE AFTERNOON. A RISK OF LIGHT ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS, PARTICULARLY DURING THE FORENOON.

SYNOPSIS

A frontal system is shifting across the Adriatic further eastwards. A new trough is expected to generate over the central Mediterranean during the night.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE ADRIATIC FOR THE FIRST 12 HOURS

Wind turning to NE, toward the open of the South and of a part of the Central Adriatic to NW, 12-22 knots. Along the coast NE winds briefly up to 26, in the Velebit Channel up to 34, easing in the afternoon firstly in the North Adriatic to 6-16 knots. Sea 2-3, increasing in the open to 3-4, calming toward the end of the day, firstly in the northern part. Visibility 10-20, in places reduced to around 5 km. Overcast, still with rain and a risk of isolated rain showers and thunder during the forenoon, but becoming partly clear and a little cooler later on.

NE and NW winds dying away and turning to light SE and E winds. Sea smooth or slight. A new cloud increase.
